COURSE CHAPTERS
Chapter 1 – Finding A Sample
Discover how a vocal from an old blues record became the starting point for their track. Learn how you can use samples to spark ideas and rework a vocal into a new creative meaning.
Chapter 2 – Editing A Sample
Go in-depth with re-timing vocal samples, choosing the right warp settings in Ableton and creatively editing to create a new vibe.
Chapter 3 – Adding A Melody
Learn how Goldfish found the key of the vocal sample the used in “Talk To Me.” Watch as they explain how to find the key of a sample, get the tuning correct and move into creating catchy melodies.
Chapter 4 – Creating The Drop
Moving from a jazz-blues sample to a future-house style drop. Goldfish explain how to find the key of a kick sample using an analyzer and rework sample-pack samples into your own track.
Chapter 5 – Recording The Piano
After the track has a modern edgy drop, Goldfish teach you how they then began to add their signature jazz and musical stylings with piano parts. Discover how a layer of simply recorded real piano with a clean piano ROMpler instrument added up to a unique piano sound.
Chapter 6 – Adding Drums And Percussion
You’ll understand how to layer simple, single-shot samples and loops with creatively processed drum, percussion and ‘real’ claps.
Chapter 7 – Recording Instruments (the Saxophone)
Watch how Goldfish record instruments, like live sax into Ableton using clip view then work with Melodyne to perfect the takes and get to the final processing chain.
Chapter 8 – Recording Group Vocals
Learn how to think outside the box as Goldfish explain how a simple recording of a group of friends signing the main sax riff and a recording of Dave’s children, added to the vibe of the track’s layers.
Chapter 9 – Mixing Group Vocals
In this chapter the full arrangement begins to take shape. Goldfish explain how to fit these real recordings in the mix to add to your own track’s ambience and overall vibe. Balance and glue the real vocal recordings together using EQ and compression.
Chapter 10 – Processing The Vocal Sample
Now the track begins to form, it’s critical to get the original vocal sample fully processed to fit perfectly. Learn all the techniques to get samples to fit perfectly in the mix and the automation techniques to create drama and dynamics in the final mix and arrangement.
Chapter 11 – Extra Effects And Samples
See first-hand the attention to detail you’ll need with extra effects and samples to get them to fit just right in the final mix. Discover smart automation, clever EQ and tuning to make every part fit. In addition, learn how sometimes to make a mix sound even better, some elements need to be removed, but which ones? They’ll show you!
